Massage Therapy
Deep-tissue clinical massage & Sports massage are both highly effective in releasing muscular tension, and breaking up fibrous tissue to reduce pain, relax the body and enhance tissue function. They use diffferent types of touch, pressure and flowing movements for maximum benefit.
Highly skilled touch and palpation is used to locate areas of stiffness, pain or tension. Various techniques involving pressure, friction or stretching of the skin are then used to release tension, stretch and realign muscle fibres. Massage is often used to alleviate stress, aid relaxation, relieve pain and facilitate healing from injury. It also plays an important part in sports therapy in the treatment and prevention of injuries.
Massage of the skin and underlying tissues increases circulation of blood and lymph fluids, which increases oxygenation of the tissues and speeds up the removal of waste products. Massage also stimulates skin receptors and the nervous system, triggering the release of 'feel good' hormones known as endorphins that help us relax and help 'block' pain signals.
Types of Massage - Deep Tissue & Sports Massage
Sports and deep tissue massage can be an effective means of combating the muscular elements of pain and tension. Poor posture, strain, injury, stress, or repetitive activities can cause a build up of tension in the muscles. This tension can then lead to further stresses on joints, ligaments and tendons in addition to the muscles themselves. Massage is an effective means for releasing this muscular tension and pain, restoring balance to the musculo-skeletal system and promoting health and well-being.
Muscle imbalances can develop over time, gradually building up, and finally start causing pain when yet another factor puts further demand on the body - be it sport, work or injury related. A skilled massage therapist will be able to detect variations in the soft tissue and use a variety of appropriate techniques, such as active release, trigger point therapy and muscle energy techniques to help address the associated muscular pain and tension.
Both types of massage are designed to enable your body's soft tissues to work optimally, & help ready muscles for peak performance for all sporting events and everyday activities. They also aid in relaxing muscles after a hard work out, and speed up recovery from sports injuries. Received regularly this may help athletes prevent injuries, which might otherwise be caused by overuse. A constant build up of tension in the muscles may have a further ripple effect and lead to stresses on the body's other joints, ligaments, tendons and fascia.
Depending on the case, patients may receive a combination of chiropractic manipulation as well as deep-tissue massage to get them on the road to recovery!
