What To Expect on your First & Subsequent AppointmentsUnbalanced Spine

You will need to allow about one hour for your first initial consultation. This will include:

  • discussing your present problem and medical history,
  • a full orthopedic & neurological examination - where we check your bones, joints, nerves, muscles to see what is causing the problem (a gown will be offered),
  • an explanation of the examination findings, and a proposed course of action to get you on the road to recovery, and
  • (depending on the case) your first treatment.

This procedure enables us to formulate a Diagnosis, so we can explain to you in easy to understand terms what's causing the trouble in your case.

Sometimes X-rays / MRI or blood tests are necessary if the case history and the examination does not provide enough information, or are needed to rule out pathology.  If you need these, don’t worry, we’ll sort them out for you, and explain the results fully.

When your chiropractor has made a diagnosis he/she then decides whether the condition is suitable for chiropractic treatment.  If you require medical or multidisciplinary treatment or if Chiropractic is not the best option for you, we will inform you and help you choose the best way forward.  Your chiropractor will always tell you if he or she cannot help you.

When a case is deemed suitable for chiropractic treatment, your chiropractor will explain the treatment plan to you. This plan will include the frequency of treatment along with plans for advice such as home exercises, posture correction, working environment etc.

It is vital that you understand what is going wrong with your body and what we will do to correct it.  Your chiropractor will also explain how you can expect to respond, and how long it will take to get better & back on track.
Having explained your treatment plan, and answered any questions you may have, your chiropractor will commence treatment.

Chiropractic treatment is generally painless, although patients may feel some soreness if there is a lot of concurrent inflammation.  You may hear a little click or pop sometimes as the joint moves.  This is simply a gas bubble within the joint making some noise - sometimes it makes noises, sometimes it doesn't - makes no difference to the treatment outcome itself!

Depending on your age, condition, or pain levels, there are other lighter techniques, which we may use instead.  Chiropractic treatment is suitable for all ages and is adapted to each individual patient.  As every back problem is different, so is every treatment plan.

Subsequent visits are shorter (about 15 minutes) and you will be given some homework - such as specific home exercises, posture advice, or re-training on how to perform certain activities, such as lifting. This is to help your recovery and also try and prevent the same problem happening again. Periodic check ups every couple of months may be recommended to keep your spine or other joints in good shape.

Give us a call today so we can get you on the Road to Recovery!
